Costs

How much does boat storage cost?

It depends on the type of storage, your boat's length and the area. Below are real published rates from public marinas — dry storage from $20 per foot per month, trailer storage from $160 a month — and a method to compare the quotes you get.

Updated October 2026Costs

Short answer

Boat storage is priced either per foot of boat per month (marinas, dry stack, slips) or per space per month (lots and units). Outdoor parking on a trailer is usually the cheapest; dry stack, indoor and wet slips are the most expensive. Instead of national «averages» that mix monthly and seasonal prices, here are published rates you can check yourself.

Rates read on the official pages on 27 October 2026. They are examples from specific places, not national averages; prices in your area may be very different. Private storage lots rarely publish prices: call for a quote.

What changes the price

  1. Storage type: indoor and dry stack need buildings, racks and forklifts; open lots don't.
  2. Length — and sometimes beam and height: most marinas bill the overall length, tip to tip.
  3. Contract: annual contracts are cheaper per month than monthly or transient rates (Vero Beach: $20 vs $30 per foot per month for dry storage).
  4. Residency: some public marinas charge non-residents more (Nashville's Hamilton Creek: $81.25 vs $87.50 a month).
  5. Location and season: waterfront and peak-season space costs more.
  6. Extras: power, launch and haul-out, shrink-wrap, winterization, taxes and card fees.

How to compare quotes

Convert every quote to the same unit — cost per month and per year for your length — and add the extras you will actually use. A seasonal price of $100 per foot for a 6-month winter is $16.67 per foot per month; for a 24 ft boat that is $400 a month or $2,400 for the season.

Compare up to four quotes per month, season and year: open the tool.

Costs people forget

  • Haul-out and launch fees (Vero Beach: $150 forklift haul and launch).
  • Electricity per cord and water.
  • Shrink-wrap, winterization and spring commissioning if the facility does them.
  • Insurance: many facilities require proof of liability coverage.
  • Sales tax and card surcharges (Liberty Harbor: +3.5% by card).

Ways to pay less

  • Choose the cheapest type that fits your climate and use: the storage type tool helps.
  • Sign an annual contract if you will stay anyway.
  • Ask whether the price is per boat foot or per space foot and measure precisely.
  • Compare a few facilities a little farther from the water.

Frequently asked questions

Is boat storage charged per foot?

Marinas, dry stack and slips usually charge per foot of boat per month or season. Storage lots and units usually charge per space, by its length.

Is winter storage cheaper?

Seasonal winter rates are often lower per month than summer ones: Liberty Harbor Marina publishes $100 per foot for the winter dry season versus $110 for the summer (2026–27).

Why don't you show an average price?

Because we found no reliable national source. Mixing monthly and seasonal prices from different places produces misleading averages.
